Bombay 050901

Test recording made in my living room with a portable hard-drive recorder and a Rhode Stereo microphone. Nothing was added, no EQ of any kind, no compression. Publishing owned by Sony Music. Full Copyright. The original can be found on the album "The Hours between Night + Day", released by Epic Records in 1993.

Ottmar put this song into podcasting a while ago, even before the Holiday Tour, in fact. Bombay 050901 is a test recording made in his living room! Hadn't noticed that before. Very interesting and fantastically played.

  • Beautiful. Thanks, I had not noticed it in the LL.

I could listen to Hours Between Night + Day all day long. In fact, I think I did for two days at work to help me tackle a challenging writing project, I don't remember since I was so immersed in the writing and the music. At home I hear griping from the kids about "having to listen to the guitar dude again." Oh well, they will thank me when they're older for that and for listening to "the bass dude."

  • I'm sure your kids will. At work we have an apprentice who can't stop to put plugs into her ears. Sometimes you notice what she's listening to and I can't understand how this can beef up growing ups in the morning. When listening to that hard kind of music so early the day, how can a day ever become nice?!

  • I think we need to put out the alert on any new podcasts or other downloads as they come up, not assuming everyone else knows. Adam was quite right about not much being said about the Holiday Tour downloads. Yes, we all know they're great but there's no harm in saying so. Let's work to announce them here and on the lonely old forum.

My youngest daughter has literally grown up with Ottmar's music. The Wide-Eyde + Dreaming DVD used to lull her to sleep. She still calls him "Tar Man". When we were visiting Disney's California Adventure last month, my son was the first to hear "Santa Fe" being played through the parks sound system. The quality was very poor and at first I couldn't tell if it was a cover tune, but he was right.

  • Most of the issue with my kids is preteen angst - if mom really likes something then it must not be cool. I remember feeling that way when I was their age. It's part of their wanting more independence, all part of growing up. They do stop complaining as they hear the first few notes, although they seem to draw the line at singing along to Ten Piedad de Mi.
